Dinner
with the Docs is back!!! This hugely successful event was started
last year
by PASS and is an opportunity for pre-medical students to dine
and
casually interact with doctors in the surrounding area. Previously,
around 15
doctors and 40 students joined us for a night of fun and
education.
The event will take place in late April or early May and ticket
sales
will be starting shortly (keep an eye out for the newsletter or
attend
GBMs for more information).
Fundraiser
auction: PASS will soon be auctioning off 5 Princeton Review
books and
50% off of a Princeton Review MCAT course scholarship. The books
are worth
$20-30 each and the course scholarship is worth $1000. More
details
will be announced at GBM!

Regarding USVH Program:
From:
Leslie Johnson
I am
writing to tell you about an exciting leadership and service
opportunity that can be initiated at UC San Diego. In my role as National
President for United Students for Veterans’ Health (USVH, usvh.org), I
work closely with student leaders at campuses across the United States to
launch volunteer programs to serve elderly hospitalized veterans at nearby
VA hospitals. As you may know, this patient population is very isolated
and
lonely. The visits of our student volunteers make all the difference in
the
world.
USVH is a wonderful prospect for anyone from pre-medical students to
students interested in veterans’ issues in the political realm to students
interested in serving their community. Our directors tell us that their
work with USVH ends up being the single most important experience of their
time on campus. Many tell us that it represents the single most rewarding
leadership experience of their lives. USVH makes a powerful difference in
the lives of both students and patients.
The pre-med community generally has many members who are excited about
leadership and service opportunities. This can be an especially
rewarding
experience for an underclassman who can establish the organization on
campus. Please contact me with any information concerning potentially
interested organizations or individuals to found a chapter of USVH at
UCSD.
ABOUT USVH
United Students for Veterans' Health (USVH) is the nation's oldest and
largest student based organization serving hospitalized veterans.
Founded in 1994, USVH has been recognized by the Governor of California,
Department of Veterans Affairs, and Saturn Corporation for its pioneering
work in serving an all-too forgotten population.
Today, USVH's national board is headquartered in the Haas Center for
Public
Service at Stanford University. Members of the board work closely with
college students to recruit, train and mentor promising young leaders and
prepare them for hands-on leadership experience.
All of our leaders share a belief in the founding vision: that our
generation must embrace its calling to give back to those who have given
so
much. This call to serve has echoed across America and enabled USVH
to grow into what it is today.

Need a friend who will help you out with the
pre-med stuff and have fun with you at the same? Do you want to help a
fellow younger pre-med? The PASS buddies program is here to provide all
of these needs.
PASS Buddies’ objective is to grant newer
pre-meds the opportunity to meet with other pre-meds. All-in-all, this
program is designed to make sure that the participants not only become better
informed but also create meaningful friends.

Calling All Pre-Meds!
Intersection Health LLC is a new online publication seeking
skilled and
talented writers and artists to contribute content. We were
really
impressed by your background and leadership within the University
and hope
you would consider writing a piece for us. Our new
publication aims to
‘push the health envelope' through sharing knowledge and
information of
ground-breaking health-related matters within science, technology,
communications, arts, politics, and innovation.
We recognize that the availability of accurate and balanced health
information is lacking. As a result, the public is at a
great disadvantage
when making decisions about health. Thus, our philosophy is
to bring
contemporary health issues to The People, with creative clarity
and
insight. We seek to provide a bold and renewed way of thinking
about health
challenges that the average person might not have the time or the
background to consider. In bringing “technical” information to
“non-technical” audiences, we hope to spark interest in health
through
content that inspires discussion and debate.
If you are interested in contributing content or require more
information,
please contact Jason at Jason@intersectionhealth.org. We look forward to
working with you.
