Hey PASS Members!
Just wanted to highlight a few events that are happening this week!
HMP3 HEALTH PROFESSIONS
GRADUATE SCHOOL
FAIR
Coordinator: Christine Feng (christine.feng@gmail.com)
Wednesday, April 15th, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Come support PASS by tabling at the 2009 Health Professions
School Fair! Over 30 graduate schools are already scheduled to attend, so don't
miss this chance to advertise for PASS.
As usual, one hour of tabling will count for .5 service points.
1ST GENERAL BODY MEETING
Wednesday,
April 15th, 8:00 – 9:00 pm PC Theater
We have
three guest speakers for GBM1:
1) Brian Zeglen, the Director of Admissions at UCSD Medical
School. If there is
anyone who knows what it takes to get into medical school, its this guy. Learn
what medical schools are looking for in applicants and the do's and dont's of
applying.
He will have a short lecture and then be answering all of our questions.
2) Princeton Review will be dropping by to tell us about their deals
on the MCAT and they may have some prizes for us.
3) Carlo Flascha, current UCSD undergraduate student, current AP Stats tutor at
Preuss, current Director of Tutoring Services (DOTS) at the Academic Success
Program (ASP), current PASS member, and teaching aficionado will be chatting
with us about volunteer opportunities with ASP (Academic Success Program). ASP
is committed to providing free retention programs and services that help
undergraduates financially, socially, and academically. As a tutor, you would
help many undergrads stay in college.
As always you may pick up your shirt and pay your dues.
Food and drink will be provided!
GLOBAL GOURMET INDIAN FUNDRAISER
Coordinator: Teresa Bau (tbau@ucsd.edu)
Thursday, April 16th, 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Our project coordinator Teresa Bau spent last summer volunteering at an NGO in southern India (Bangalore)
called Jagruthi (they serve most of the country), a branch network involved
with the worldwide UNICEF. This organization aims to address the growing spread
of HIV/AIDS amongst children, women, males and marginalized and vulnerable
populations in and around Southern India,
rescuing women and children from the sex trafficking industry. Partnered with
International House in ERC college, this fundraiser aims to donate money to
this particular NGO.
This will be an Indian Cultural Celebration! Thus....
1.) Food preparation (yes, we will be cooking) will begin at 4:30pm
2.) Dinner will be served ~6:30pm
3.) We are inviting various performers/speaker to perform and the program will
start ~7pm to 9pm, SOOOOOO if you or any of your friends might be interested in
singing, dancing, performing, talking about HIV/AIDS or sex trafficking for
this event, PLEASE LET TERESA KNOW BY APRIL 13TH!!!
Tickets for the public (those not helping out with the event or performing)
will be $5 for students, $8 for the general public.
Sincerely,
Ronald Chang
